Mission Statement

Castlerea Community School is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education in a caring environment of mutual respect so as to foster the full potential of its students and staff. In partnership with parents we strive to create a desire for life long learning, respect for the individual, an awareness of the needs of the disadvantaged, concern for the environment and an appreciation of our own unique culture.

Students

There are 670 students in the school. There are 312 boys and 358 girls.

Staff

The staff consists of both teaching and ancillary staff. There are forty-six members on the teaching staff. There are six ancillary staff, two caretakers, two secretaries, and a number of care assistants.

The Learning Support Teacher

It is the our policy that each student receives the best education while attending this school. Students experiencing difficulties are tested and diagnosed by a trained learning support teacher and programmes are devised to suit their needs. It is considered that the role of the Learning Support teacher is to proved an opportunity for all children to learn in accordance with their ability, age, aptitude and interests.

The Resource Teacher

The role of the resource teacher in our school is to provide access to students with special educational needs and to help them to participate in the education system, according to their potential and ability. The objective is to ensure that special education is available within our school. The educational provision is flexible to allow for students with different needs, at various stages to progress through the educational system. The resource teacher is responsible for identifying these students and devising a curriculum for their needs.

The Guidance Counsellor

The Guidance Counsellor's role is to assist students in making an informed decision regarding their education throughout and after Castlerea Community School. Guidance class is taken by all students to provide them with a general knowledge of various careers and further education options.
